The ninth annual Mountain High Broncs and Bulls rodeo to be held this weekend in Enterprise will include colorful Wallowa County flavoring when an Imnaha native steps abroad a saddle bronc Friday night.
That young man, J.D. Brock, won the world saddle bronc title two weeks ago in Amarillo, TX and will be in town this weekend to compete in one of the higher-paying purse rodeos around.
The June 15 & 16 rodeo will be held at the Wallowa County Fairgrounds, in Enterprise, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday night and 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
According to rodeo announcer Lee Daggett, half of the 48 competitors in the bull riding event will represent the Elite Professional Bull Riders Association while the remaining 24 slots will be filled through an open entry selection.
The best known bull rider to be at the fairgrounds this weekend, says Daggett, will be Heppner bull rider Cody Ford, the winner of the PBR national finals held in Las Vegas.
The bull riding purse amounts to $14,000, while the ranch saddle bronc purse will be $9,000, Daggett says.
