In an impressive ceremony attended by a diverse group of about 135 people, the new memorial stone at Chinese Massacre Cove on the Snake River was dedicated. Unveiling the stone is is Bettie Luke of Seattle.Those attending the June 22 ceremony included representatives of the Chinese American communities in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. There was also participation from the Nez Perce tribe in Idaho. The project, made possible by $4,500 in donations, is designed to endure as a lasting memorial to the nearly 34 Chinese gold miners massacred at the cove in 1887.
