Betty Ann Rutherford, 93, of Pullman, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Bishop Place Retirement Community in Pullman.

Betty was born May 7, 1924, in Imnaha, Ore., to Elmer and Myrle (Ownbey) Warnock. She was raised on the family cattle ranch on the Imnaha River. In 1942, she graduated from high school in Enterprise, Ore.

Following graduation, Betty attended Oregon State College. On Sept. 9, 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, Bruce Rutherford, in Carlsbad, N.M., where he was stationed with the U.S. Army Air Corps. When Bruce was discharged from the service they moved to Pullman. Bruce and Betty were married for 63 years.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and caregiver to Bruce. She belonged to the Pullman Ladies Golf Club, PEO Chapter S, and the Kapa Delta Sorority as well as the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Pullman, where she volunteered in the church’s thrift shop. She also volunteered with the Pullman Hospital Auxiliary. Some of her hobbies were quilting, golfing and playing bridge. She also was a wonderful cook and a gracious hostess.

Betty is survived by her three children, John (Roberta) of Pullman, Gregory (Laura) of Chewelah, Wash., and Susan (Paul) Muller of Richland; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, Bruce, she was preceded in death by her three brothers.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Community Room at Bishop Place.
